What is INVOLVE_FP?

Involving Men and Boys in Family Planning

The INVOLVE_FP project is led by Dr Áine Aventin and Prof Maria Lohan from Queen's University Belfast. This project involves a systematic review of the effective characteristics and components of family planning interventions involving men and boys in low- and middle-income countries. The aim is to identify what works in family planning interventions involving men and boys, and why. The project is funded by the Centre of Excellence for Development Impact and Learning with support from UK aid from the UK government.

Rationale

Why involve men and boys in family planning?

Helping individuals achieve their desired family size and timing is essential for global health and development, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. We now recognise that involving men and boys in family planning is essential to secure the best outcomes for all, however little is known about how best to do this. The INVOLVE_FP project addresses this gap by helping us understand what is working with family planning interventions that involve men and boys, and why. We aim to develop guidelines to inform the best use of existing evidence in the field of family planning and recommendations for further research.
